Before starting my blog I was busy working for a media company in London and after three years of knowing that it wasn’t really what I wanted to do I decided to bite the bullet and quit rather impulsively. I’ve always loved writing and travelling. I wanted to create something I could pour my creativity into which is how carlietasker.com was born.
Some people think that being a travel blogger is just taking photos and writing posts. But there’s so much more to it than that. My days are spent responding to potential advertisers as well as working on projects with various brands for collaborations, editing photos, writing contracts, social media, site design and various other responsibilities. I also work as a freelance stylist, something that I’ve been doing since graduating university. Whilst my days are very varied there is always something more that I could be doing. When you work for yourself the work is never done!
Alongside the day to-day grind, there is also the super fun part, the travel. I’m so lucky that I get to visit some truly amazing places and relax as part of what I do. Being away from home can bring such peace and tranquility.
The last trip I took was to Spain; we (me and my boyfriend) travelled to Seville and stayed at two beautiful hotels, one in the centre and the other, a beautiful Hacienda about forty minutes outside of the city. Spain is one of my favourite countries; I love the food, culture and the language. I’ve been learning Spanish on and off for the last five years but I really feel like I need to immerse myself in Spanish life to become fluent. I’d love to move to Spain for a few months next year but in the mean time I take my homework with me when I’m travelling; I try to be as productive as possible on the plane.
Travelling a lot for work has made me quite adept at packing. Depending on the destination and the duration of the trip, I’m usually able to whittle everything down to just hand luggage, I’m cut throat. My cabin luggage will usually contain a camera, as photos are the best souvenirs. Jewellery - I carry my sentimental pieces on me, it’s nice to have some home comforts. Magazines, I always bring a ton! As well as headphones and herbal tea to drink on the flight, eye masks are a must, scented ones are great for relaxing and they wrap up so small so you can take them everywhere. I get so cold onboard so big socks and cashmere are great for staying cosy.
When it comes to beauty and toiletries I try to keep products to a minimum especially if I’m only taking hand luggage during shorter breaks. My essentials are Kita’s moisturising serum and a Jo Malone lip balm. I’ve recently discovered Spiezia organic products and I’d highly recommend the rose and vanilla face oil. I take mine with me everywhere and it's really soothing.

Over the next few months I’ll be travelling to New York, Switzerland and Norway. We also have a trip scheduled for next summer to Santorini. It's been on my list for a long time so I’m very excited to finally be going. My dream destination to visit has to be the Maldives; I went a few years ago with family but I’m dying to go back. I made the mistake of taking far too many shoes as I ended up being barefoot the whole time. The views are indescribably beautiful and you feel so isolated from the rest of the world, in a good way, of course.
