Tips | How to enjoy a lazy morning

We all relish lazy mornings. Here are our top 5 things that you can do to make the most of an extra hour.

 1. Breakfast in bed

Show someone how much you care through their stomach whilst staying in your Yawn pyjamas. Putting a spin on the classic ham and cheese sandwich, a new favourite of ours is the ham and cheese croissant with honey and mustard glaze.

Created by recipe blogger Nicky Corbishley, these croissants are ready to go in less than 10 minutes and we can guarantee you’ll be making them again for lunch. See the full recipe below, or head to Kitchen Sanctuary for videos and other delicious recipes.

PREP TIME: 3 mins COOK TIME: 7 mins TOTAL TIME: 10 mins

Serves: 4

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 croissants
  • 8 slices good-quality ham
  • 8 slices Leerdammer cheese
  • 2 Tablespoons Dijon Mustard
  • 2 Tablespoon honey
  • 1 Tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tsp Poppy seeds

 INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat the oven to 190c. Slice the croissants in half lengthways. Place a slice of cheese on the base of the croissants, followed by two slices of ham and another slice of cheese.

Place the croissants on a baking tray.

Mix the mustard, honey and brown sugar together and brush on top of the croissants. Sprinkle with poppy seeds and place in the oven for 6-7 minutes to heat through.

Serve immediately.

 2. Read a good book

Curl up and tide yourself over with ‘The Letters Of Sylvia Plath: 1940 – 1956’, as recommended by the Guardian. Sharing never-seen before images of the author and her sketches, the book shares for the first time unedited letters Plath wrote to her mother and documents her experiences in New York during her magazine internship, which inspired her first and only novel. The first of two volumes, it’s an incredibly compelling read.

3. Go for a walk

For a long stretch lasting 7 miles we recommend heading to Ditching Beacon in East Sussex starting in Plumpton village. At its highest point of 248m on South Downs Way, you’ll see striking views to the north of Box Hill and may even spot a variety of winter migrant birds.

A shorter alternative, escape to the Cotswolds for a 2.5 mile walk in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire. A place of outstanding natural beauty, enjoy a stroll from the market town across gentle hills to Over Norton for a peaceful end to your weekend.

4. Netflix binge

Netflix’s sci-fi series Stranger Things is back with season two. With nine episodes to enjoy compared to last season’s eight, it makes for ideal downtime. However, if the first season didn’t take your fancy there’s still plenty of other great series or films to watch and suit all tastes on the platform.

5. Discover or pick up an old hobby

Reconnect with a hobby that you haven’t had the time for since work or home life took over. Allowing yourself regular periods of relaxation will result in greater productivity, so if you can turn this hour into a habit, you'll find yourself no longer yearning for an extra hour in bed.
