Home is where the heart is

Home is where the heart is

Now, we know what you’re thinking. Whilst the rest of the world has been sucked into spending millions on roses, chocolates and sitting in packed restaurants, celebrating Valentine’s Day just isn’t for everyone. Even more so if you’re working long hours or you’re a parent who is still discovering inventive ways to get the kids into bed, before passing out on the floor yourself.

Here at Yawn we’re all romantics deep down and what better than a holiday designed to give you an excuse to have a good night and get those creative wheels turning. Use this day as a reason to spend time with your loved ones at home, or for some self-love if you’re single, but no Bridget Jones ‘all by myself’ moments please.

Together, team Yawn have created a list of ideas that will make the 14th feel like the special day that it should be, with the added bonus that you don’t have to get out of your PJs to do any of them. However, following our Yawn mantra, first things first – phone off. No Facebook, tweeting, work calls or checking your emails. How are you supposed to relax and unwind if you’ve got a constant distraction?

  1. Spend the night on the living room floor

Grab your favourite rug, or set up the air mattress and enjoy a picnic dinner in the living room. You don’t have to worry about getting cold and wet, you can eat whatever you like and if you treat yourself to a couple of glasses of wine you can just stumble up to bed whenever you fancy. If you don’t have a partner, even better invite the girls over for a good natter.

  1. Cook a meal together

Perfect if you’re a family with kids. Rather than spending one on one time with your partner, family time can be just as fun, so embrace your inner Delia Smith and cook up a storm. By getting the children involved, you’ll keep them distracted and have everyone looking forward to a nice family meal. Fingers crossed you’ll also tire them out and end up having some of the evening to yourselves.

  1. Netflix and Chill… but we mean chill

Finally, time to catch up on a series of Game of Thrones or spend some quality time with Maggie Smith in Downton Abbey, because we know there’s still a large group of us trying to catch up with the rest of the TV world. The beauty? For some, you won’t even have to leave the comfort of your own bedroom. If you’re not single make a decision before hand with your partner about what you want to watch; you don’t want to get lost in a sea of Korean Netflix dramas.

  1. Breakfast in bed

Some of you won’t be able to spend the evening together, so make the most of your morning. Wake up to fresh orange juice, toast covered in jam and a large mug of coffee. You’ll both feel relaxed and ready for the day ahead, but don’t blame us for any crumbs you find later in the evening! This is also a fantastic option for you to do occasionally by yourself, far better than manically eating a banana and reading your emails.

  1. At home spa

Our final idea and probably the most relaxing, bring the spa to you. Splash out on a few products you’ve always wanted to try or have a rummage through your bathroom cupboards (it’s amazing how much you’ll find). You can even get really creative and try creating your own masks and products. The man of the house might be slightly reluctant at first but trust us, everyone likes to have some downtime and we all know he secretly uses your skin products anyway.

So whether you’re enjoying a night to yourself, with friends or your partner, use Valentine’s Day as a chance to rejuvenate and try something new. February is a dull enough month as it is.

Let us know if you’ve got any other PJ friendly ideas and have a fantastic day.
