As an independent brand we’re constantly battling against the big boys with their unrealistic pricing, fast fashion and over the past few years…’Black Friday’ sales.
Instead of improving the market, Black Friday forces businesses to reduce their margins and offer awful promotions. We'd rather provide our customers with gifts of great value in time for Christmas, so we're taking this opportunity to do something good and say no.
To many we appear as a well-established brand, but that doesn’t mean we don’t go through difficult times, taking risks and embracing highs and lows. We’re a core team of three at Yawn HQ and together we do everything in our power to grow a business that helps our customers to take more time out for themselves and do less.
By supporting a small business like Yawn, you help us to support you with beautiful product, content and a team that promotes the creative industry. We don’t believe in fast fashion and never will.
Rather than participate in Black Friday, we’re giving back and this year, partnering with Young Women’s Trust. 10% of all sales from 21st November – 28th November 2018 will be donated to support young women aged 16-30, struggling to live on low or no pay and at risk of being trapped in poverty.
This is a charity that immediately struck me as a young woman myself, realising how lucky I’ve been to have the support I’ve had growing up. I still remember how daunting writing my first CV was, applying for my first job and to this day still hear stories from female friends about discrimination or assault in the work place.
Difficult enough, I cannot imagine how hard these experiences must be for those who already lack in confidence with limited educational, home or governmental support.

Despite being given the power to vote over 100 years ago, there is still a lack of workplace and spending power amongst women. Personally it’s brilliant to be able to work for a female-owned business where everyone at Yawn is respected, but together we hope to help other females reach their desired lifestyle and feel comfortable at work too.
As part of our partnership with The Young Women’s Trust we’ll be personally assisting young women with their CVs on a monthly basis to help them feel ready for work. We look forward to keeping you updated and sharing this experience with you.

2018 has been a great year and whether you decide to shop at Yawn or elsewhere, we ask you to consider your spending across the Christmas period. There are a lot of independent small businesses that give back to their community and would love your support too. Thank you.
Love Imogen x
